A Lapa pronounced (Larpa) is a traditional South African garden structure crafted from African hardwood poles and finished with a genuine thatched roof. The resulting Lapa structure is a stunning building that can be used all year round.

We work closely with clients to ensure that each project is unique and built to exacting standards. No two Lapas are ever the same, and it is the uniqueness that sets them apart from other garden buildings. 

Handcrafted from start to finish, they combine modern comforts with traditional building techniques to provide a contemporary and flexible outdoor living space. In addition to bespoke design elements, our Lapa construction is a stunning structural process to witness, crowned with a hand thatched roof completed by our master thatchers.

Every Lapa structure is designed with your needs in mind. Our experienced project manager will work with you to discuss all the elements that will eventually combine to make your Lapa building the focal point of your garden. As a beautiful alternative to thatched summerhouses, a Lapa design process will ensure your building has all the components you need to enjoy your life outdoors. 

Though traditionally an open-sided structure, the thatched Lapa can be enclosed with canvas side panels or brick walls dependent upon your bespoke requirements. Integrations such as rustic brick fireplaces, wood stoves, bars, barbecue areas, outdoor kitchens or even a spa are all part of the design process completed with you by The Lapa Company.

Unique Possibilities

Over the years we have created many personal designs for our clients' homes. We complete buildings across the UK and our thatched Lapa structures can be found as part of exclusive Hotel & Spa resorts, situated within farmland and as beautiful wedding venues.

The flexibility of the Lapa design means they can cater for large numbers of guests or be placed as a unique focal point in a family garden. Many of our Lapas are constructed at family homes as an extension of their outdoor living space, and can be built as a stand alone feature or connected to the main structure of the house.

Our thatched Lapas are highly exclusive and only eight to ten Lapas are constructed each year.
